Many years ago Tom Graves and I took several Senior High youth down to Wichita on a work trip. The work was coordinated by the Mennonite Church and we stayed in their facility. One of the first things their director said to us was, “You can always count on the Methodist church to be the first to show up when there is a disaster.” Fast forward to the summer of 2019. Remember putting together Flood Buckets to help our conference with disaster relief? (The picture above is of the buckets our church donated along with buckets collected from other churches that were then sent off.). Fast forward again to this summer. Several from our church went to Omaha to help with clean up after the tornadoes. And, now today the Great Plains Conference is requesting our assistance in providing financial support to people harmed by disasters in Kansas and Nebraska. The conference’s Disaster Response Fund has been depleted because of the rampant tornadoes, hailstorms, floods and even fires across the two states in the past few months. Rev. Hollie Tapley, conference Disaster Response coordinator, said that in a typical year, the conference receives about 50 requests for such funds. Through August of this year, the number of requests has exceeded 150. Trinity has always been known for stepping forward when the need arises. Thus, the Mission Committee is inviting you to make a donation to the conference disaster response fund. Donations can be made anytime between now and Thursday, September 5th. If you make a check out be sure to mark it “disaster relief funds”. If you donate cash you can use a giving envelope and mark it “disaster relief funds”. You can drop your donation in the collection plate this Sunday or next Sunday or bring it by the church office. Remember the office will be closed Monday, September 2 for Labor Day. As always, THANKS to all for spreading God’s love through your generosity and kindness.
