I am so pleased to call Trinity United Methodist my home church. The people of our congregation help others in our neighborhood and those in Grand Island in many ways. One of the ways our church helps is to provide snacks and other produets for Howard school. Many years ago our church was paired with Howard to provide support with delivering backpacks containing food for families who needed that help over the weekends. This simple ministry has grown. During COVID, as school lunch schedules were changed to protect our children, we began furnishing individually wrapped snacks to help the students make it through the day. We give bags of food to help some families get through Christmas break. We donate small gifts and gift wrap for the school’s Christmas store so that students can choose gifts for their families. The last several years, our Healthy Congregation grant has included a portion to aid in purchasing lice shampoo, shoes, and other self care items. Other churches and businesses help in a similar way with the other grade schools in GI. And Howard shares what we provide when other schools need a boost. Thank you all for helping support this ongoing ministry. Another way our gracious church serves our community is through giving away the food boxes provided by Foodbank for the Heartland. There has been a recent change in this process as now the consumer must sign a USDA form in order to receive food. We want to clarify that the signature form is simply a self-attestation of need. We view this change as a way to continue to provide food for those seeking help. The bottom line is that if someone needs food, and is willing to sign the form, they will be gilled boxes of food. This allows Foodbank to continue to serve the large numbers they do. And so I conclude this with a huge THANK YOU to this wonderful church.
