Christmas/December at Trinity is a special time. The nativity that graces the left side of the sanctuary is truly lovely and induces peace for me. The trees around our facility, the banners, other decorations scattered all over are traditional and wonderful. The candles that grace the ledge under the cross at the front of the sanctuary on Christmas Eve began lighting our Trinity holiday many years ago after lighting a Graves and an Underwood wedding. Through the years we have had some truly inspiring traditions. Thanks to Tom and Jeanne Graves, many years ago the holidays were kicked off with our Advent Workshop the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. Many of us continue to display nativities we made there. Another tradition is the hanging of the greens around our facility. Prior to COVID our church hosted a Live Nativity and soup supper for many years, beginning first as a drive by at Shovlain’s drive in and eventually moving to Fonner. We all loved the live animals that wandered around as people of all ages played the roles of Joseph, Mary, shepherds, angels and wisemen. Many from our community enjoyed hearing the story as told by Brian Gallagher. A remembrance of Christmas at Trinity would not be complete without mentioning all the years of children’s programs. We love to see the young people of our church perform. December also includes Baskets of Love and pecan sales. Music is a huge part of Christmas here. Our sanctuary abounds with wonderful, spiritual melodies. The music touches our hearts from caroling parties to anthems to closing our Christmas Eve services with the moving candle lit singing of “Silent Night”. Just recalling that wonderful tradition makes my heart swell. Phew, that’s a lot. I feel so grateful to be a part of this wonderful church throughout the year and especially as we celebrate the birth of our Christ!
