A few years ago an idea came to me. Let me give you a little background first. A while back, I began starting plants from seed for our vegetable garden. As with many things, that starting from seed expanded to flowers and herbs. Steven constructed a greenhouse to house my growing plant space. I can’t express to you how much joy I have gotten from literally getting my hands dirty. There is something therapeutic and wonderful about playing in God’s earth and willing something to grow in it. Always in the back of my mind, there was something else. Do you ever get an idea and it won’t leave your mind? Before now, the time didn’t seem right. We all know this–the proverbial “too busy” or not sure anyone would “go for it”. But thanks to the gentle pushing from ones I love, we are exploring and creating a community garden for those not lucky enough to have a place of their own to get their hands dirty. Steven and I grew up planting gardens & sharing this tradition just seems like the natural thing to do. A garden gives people the chance to grow food for themselves. But it’s more than that. It’s creating a community through gardening, giving people more than food to eat. This is another opportunity for Trinity to serve and be active in our community. But we need the help of Trinity’s members with varied talents to share including planning, working in the garden, solving problems, and coordinating with community members. The garden will be about 1000 sq feet (50 x 20 feet) in the southeast corner of the grassy, fenced area just north of Trinity. We now need people in the community and our church willing to take part. Please contact me if you would like to participate or volunteer your time or have any questions.
