Summer of Kindness
Summer is upon us! Though we enter into what the Church calls “Ordinary Time,” we are aware that we live in extraordinary times that require flexibility, playfulness, and kindness. Starting June 1, Trinity United Methodist Church is participating in the Summer of Kindness initiative, created by the Rio Texas, Great Plains, and Michigan Conferences of The United Methodist Church. We hope to ignite a playful spirit as we practice kindness.
There are six lessons to be used at home over six weeks:
• Hospitality
• Compassion
• Caring
• Thankfulness
• Loving
• Difficult
Each lesson has five parts: Hear, Wonder, Pray, Play, and Act. You can Hear the Bible story online or read it yourself, Wonder together about the story, offer a short Prayer, Play a fun game or activity, and then complete an Act of kindness (or a few). You can pick up the lessons at the entrance to the Sanctuary, use them online from our website, www.trinityumcgi.org, then choose Kids & Youth from the menu and then Summer of Kindness. A link is also available on our Facebook page. You can share them with friends and family.
Whether you use the lessons or not, you can participate in Kindness Bingo. Who can get BINGO first?! How about a blackout BINGO? Turn in a winning Bingo card (five in a row) by Sunday, July 13 to receive a special prize!!
During our Summer of Kindness, choose the parts bring you and your loved ones joy; if that’s just the Bible stories, that’s great! If it’s playing the games, go for it! Hear us – whatever you do, during these extraordinary times, it is good and enough.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
