Our Sanctuary’s roof is still the original one that it was built with in the 1950s. We feel fortunate to have enjoyed a 70-year life with it, but our luck has now drawn to a close. Replacing the roof is one of our obligations we must deal with to improve our Church property so it can serve the mission and witness of TUMC well into the future. As Vaughn Minton expressed in Church, we are initiating a capital campaign to cover the cost of replacing it.
This is your invitation to prayerfully consider participating. Participation can be a one-time contribution or a pledge with payments over time.
Some key information:
• Time is of the essence to capture the least cost
• Only the Sanctuary roof needs attention; all other roofing surfaces on our buildings are fine
• There is asbestos in the current roofing material that needs abatement in the process
The Trustees have secured a bid of about $320,000 to replace the entire Sanctuary roof area. It includes handling the removal of asbestos material.
To avoid cost increases and delays that could damage interior Sanctuary components from rainwater, we have discussed a plan to “borrow” from our endowment funds and repay those funds with receipts from this campaign. We have secured a local attorney’s opinion that we can do that, and the documents are currently being drafted.
We are borrowing $350,000 to cover the additional cost of interest, attorney fees and perhaps some cost for gutters. We will pay our loaned funds back as we collect on campaign responses.
As we said, we have suggested two ways to pledge: (1) a one-time gift or (2) a pledge to be paid over time and we are suggesting within the next three years. You can pick up a printed copy of the letter with donation slip in the church office.
If you would like to make your donation online, you may do so by choosing the roof project on Trinity’s giving page. You may reach this by going to trinityumcgi.org and choosing the “Give” button on the top right of the page or pressing “Menu” on the top right and pressing “Give” on the left. If you need any assistance, please contact the Church office.
Thank you for considering and committing to this valuable project to support our Church. If you have questions, just contact the Church office, and they will direct you to the best person to provide your information.
