One hundred and sixty years! That is the time that Methodism has been making an impact in the history of Grand Island. Initially, people met in homes. The ministers served large areas. Grand Island Methodism has a story that began before the city of Grand Island was incorporated. In the late 1800's there were actually two Methodist Churches in Grand Island, one on the south side of town, First Methodist Episcopal Church, and one on the north side, Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church. Eventually the bishop required they combine, however that didn't last long and they separated again. History of Methodism in Hall County has an interesting story. There have been several different buildings. A large number of ministers have served this area. Eventually, Gollaher Chapel was built in 1927. Then in 1954, Miller Hall was built and in 1957, the sanctuary was added. In 1968, the Methodist Church in America combined with the Evangelical United Brethren church to form the United Methodist church. This is just a minute piece of our church's interesting history and I'm sure many of you have stories of your time at Trinity. Did you grow up in Trinity? Were you married at Trinity? Were your children baptized at Trinity? Have you been a choir member at Trinity or served on a committee? How has being a part of the Trinity congregation made your life better? What happy memories of your time at Trinity would you like to share? There is no better way to share your memories of how Trinity has impacted your life than to write a journeys article for our bulletin as we prepare to celebrate our 160th anniversary on September 20, 2026. Please consider sharing your story. And mark your calendar to join in the party on September 20, 2026.
